C'land, Mulberry Grove, Cerro Gordo Tourneys Open

TOLEDO -- Casey-Westfield and Charleston picked up first round victories at the Cumberland Boys Basketball Turkey Tournament Monday.

 

Casey-Westfield opened with a 70-33 win over Oblong. The Warriors took a 26-8 opening quarter lead and that was the game.

Hills led with 17 points while Livingston had 13 and Brandenburg 10 for the winners.

In the second game, Charelston was a 64-56 winner over Newton. The Trojans led 20-11 after one quarter but Newton rallied with a 22-11 second period to lead 33-31 at halftime.

The score was tied at 41-41 going into the final quarter. Charleston then had a 23-15 final period run as Caleb Hurst scored 10 points.

Hurst finished with 21 while Isaac Miller also tallied 21 to lead Charleston. Braun chipped in with 13.

Newton was led by A. Einhorn and Kyle Schafer with 12 each.

The tourney continues tonight as Dieterich faces Cumberland at 6 followed by Vandalia taking on Okaw Valley at 7:30.

Mulberry Grove Turkey Tournament

St. Elmo/Brownstown captured an opening round win in the Mulberry Grove FNB Community Bank Basketball Turkey Tournament Monday.

SEB edged out to a 17-14 lead on Patoka and led 26-22 at halftime. The Eagles had a 20-13 third quarter and had to hold off Patoka in the final period for the 55-52 victory.

Jace McWhorter tallied 22 points to lead the winners while Jacob Baron scored 18 and Bryton Pruett 12. Baron led in rebounds with 11 and blocked shots with four. McWhorter had four steals. Pruett led in assists with five.

Ramsey downed Father McGivney, 58-49 in the opening game.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City fell to Mount Olive, 45-37 in the second contest. Mount Olive took the early lead and never looked back.

CHBC was led by Daniel Lucas with 13 points.

In tonight's games, CHBC faces Lebanon at 5:15 followed by Patoka against Father McGivney at 6:45 and Mulberry Grove taking on Mount Olive at 8;15.

Cerro Gordo Turkey Tournament

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg ran into a buzzsaw in its opening round contest at the Cerro Gordo Tournament Monday.

LeRoy took a 19-8 opening quarter lead and led 40-23 at halftime. LeRoy had a 25-9 third quarter and went on for a 73-36 win.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Vonderheide and Domzalski with 11 points each.

LeRoy had even scoring as five players finished in double figures. Mason Buckle and Peterson led the way with 13 each while Egan and Perry tallied 11 each and Moore scored 10.

In the second game, Villa Grove-Heritage downed Sangamon Valley, 50-20.

In games at the high school gym, Heyworth won over Cerro Gordo-Bement 57-51 and there was no score on the Blue Ridge vs. University High contest.
