T-town Nabs Two Wins, BSE 2-1 in Girls Tourneys

SALEM -- Teutopolis High School captured two victories but suffered a loss in the 19th Annual Salem Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament during the weekend.
In Friday action, the Wooden Shoes picked up a 63-48 win over host Salem. T-town didn't stand around in the opening quarter, whipping out to a 21-7 lead. Salem got things going in third quarter to pull wthiin 43-39 but T-town got back on track with a 20-9 final period.
It was consistent scoring for the Shoes as K. Schumacher and O. Niemerg tallied 16 each while C. Roepke chipped in with 15 and C. Bushur tallied 12. Schumacher had 10 steals in the game while Niemerg had seven.
In Saturday's first game, T-town edged Highland, 40-36. The Shoes held a 12-9 opening quarter lead and led 23-18 at halftime. T-town led 31-27 going into the final period.
Niemerg scored 16 to lead the Shoes. Schumacher pulled down 10 rebounds while Mette had nine. Niemerg led in steals with three.
In the second game Saturday, T-town fell to Carterville, 44-40. The Shoes led 14-11 after one period but Carterville edged ahead 21-20 at halftime. T-town trailed 33-26 going into the final period and put on a run but couldn't get over the seven point deficit.
Roepke tallied 15 to lead the Shoes while Niemerg scored 11. Schumacher had six rebounds. Niemerg led in steals with three.
Teutopolis, Highland and Carterville are all 2-1 while Salem is 1-2 and Centralia 0-2. The tourney will conclude Saturday with Highland against Carterville at noon, Centralia taking on Teutopolis at 1:30, Salem JV against Carterville JV at 4 and Salem against Centralia at 5:30.

Pana Thanksgiving Tournament
Brownstown/St. Elmo competed in the Pana Thanksgiving Tournament during the weekend.
BSE picked up two victories and suffered a loss. In the opening contest, BSE edged Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 49-48. BSE took a 12-11 opening quarter lead and led 30-24 at halftime. CORL came back with a 24-19 second half but fell short.
BSE was led by Campbell with 20 points and Claire Wilhour with 16 points and seven assists. She had five three-pointers.
In the second contest, BSE nabbed a 52-25 victory over Okaw Valley.
BSE stepped out to a 23-12 halftime lead and never looked back.
C. Wilhour knocked in another five three-pointers and finished with 24 points and three steals. Campbell tallied 15 points. Oberlink led in rebounds with seven while Beall had six.
BSE then faced Mattoon and fell, 57-39. Mattoon stepped out to a 20-6 opening quarter and led 30-15 at hafltime.
BSE was led by C. Wilhour with 19 points.
Mattoon and Pana are now 3-0 followed by Brownstown/St. Elmo 2-1, Central A&M 2-1, Williamsville 1-2, Centralia CORL 1-2, Athens 0-3 and Okaw Valley 0-3.

The Mules took a 14-8 opening quarter lead and led 33-16 at halftime.
North Clay was led by Holkenbrink with five points.
