SANDOVAL -- Effingham St. Anthony captured a high school girls basketball victory over Sandoval in action Thursday, 58-37.
The Bulldogs took a 16-3 opening quarter lead behind Riley Guy with seven points. Guy continued on in the second quarter with eight points as St. Anthony pushed its lead to 35-11.
Guy finished with 20 points while Lucy Fearday chipped in with 11.
Sandoval was led by Rollinson with 12.
In junior varsity play, the Bulldogs tallied a 24-19 victory. Fearday led with 14 points.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City trailed Moweaqua Central A&M 10-6 after the opening quarter but came back with a 14-2 second period run to lead 20-12 at halftime. CHBC then moved farther ahead 38-23 going in the final quarter when Central A&M had a 17-7 run.
But CHBC still ended up with a 45-40 victory. Jaelyn Robertson and Carsen Burks led the way with 11 points each. Robertson and Mackenzie Bunch pulled down seven rebounds each. Sydney Lorton led in assists with five and steals with four. CHBC improved to 2-0.
In junior varsity play, CHBC was a 38-31 winner. Leading in scoring was Gracie Heckert with 15 points. The Bobcats are now 2-0.

Neoga trailed Arcola after the opening quarter but came on strong to take a 65-45 non-conference victory Thursday.
Three players hit the double digit mark for the Indians. Titus led the way with 17 points while Partlow tallied 16 and Fearday 10. Partlow knocked in four three-pointers and Titus had three.
Partlow led in steals with four while Ramert led in rebounds with five.
Neoga also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 32-24.

Altamont held an 11-1 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 29-3 at halftime against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg. The Indians went on to take a 52-19 victory Thursday evening.
Rachel Jackman led Altamont with 17 points while Allyson Hardiek and Mary Guse chipped in with 11 points each. The Indians' Guse hit three trifectas while Runge tallied two.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Hannah Hayes with six points.

South Central played host to North Clay (Louisville) and handed the visitors a 53-38 loss in action Thursday.
The Cougars edged out to a 12-11 opening quarter lead before leading by four at halftime. Laney Webster then found the range after not scoring in the first half. Weber downed two regular baskets and a three pointer for seven points as South Central had a 16-7 third period and never looked back.
Halle Smith tallied five in that quarter and finished leading the way with 13 points. Webster scored 10 and Brooklyn Garrett had nine.
North Clay was led by M. Lovett with 24 points.
In junior varsity action, North Clay was a winner 39-29. North Clay was led by Miller with 16 and Czyzewski with 12. South Central was led by Webster with 12.

Edwards County had a 4-3 opening quarter then went on a tear with a 19-7 second period. Cowling led with 14 while Nelson and Schnapper had 11 each.
Leading Cumberland was z. Mitchell with eight points, seven rebounds and two steals. S. Carr led in rebounds with eight. M. Scott had two assists.

At Salem
The Salem Thanksgiving Tournament got under way Thursday evening.
In the opening contest, Highland downed Centralia, 59-42. Salem then won over Carterville, 47-29.
The tournament continues tonight as Teutopolis faces Salem at 6. The round robin will continue Saturday as T-town takes on Highland at noon, Centralia faces Carterville at 4, Highland meets Salem at 5:30 and Carterville and T-town square off at 7.
The tourney will come to an end Saturday, November 30.
