Effingham Sacred Heart was a winner in both seventh and eighth-grade boys basketball competition Tuesday evening.

The Shamrocks downed St. Peter Lutheran, 49-16 in the seventh-grade game. St. Peter led 9-8 after the opening quarter but Sacred Heart went to work in the second period with a 16-4 run and never looked back.

L. Wallace tallied 16 points for the winners while A. Borries chipped in with 10. St. Peter was led by Smith with eight.

In eighth-grade action, the Shamrocks captured a 33-21 win. Sacred Heart led 16-8 at halftime and 27-15 going into the final quarter.

Biggs tallied 16 for the winners. St. Peter was led by C. Smith with seven.

At Tower Hill

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City split victories with Pana St. Patrick's Tuesday evening.

St. Patrick's won the seventh-grade contest, 27-12. Pana took a 9-0 opening quarter lead and led 20-6 going into the final period,

CHBC was led by Ernie Villar and AJ Radloff with four points each.

In eighth-grade play, CHBC edged Pana St. Patrick's, 29-28. The two teams were tied at 8-8 after the first quarter. CHBC moved ahead 18-13 at halftime. But St. Patrick's came back with a 12-6 third period to lead 25-24 going into the final quarter. From there, CHBC had a 5-3 quarter for the win. Clayton Wojcik nailed a three-pointer and Carson  Evans had a basket.

Gage Lorton led in scoring for CHBC with 10 points while Evans and Wojcik tallied seven each.
