Effingham St. Anthony claimed junior high girls basketball victories over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade game, 34-21. St. Anthony edged ahead 4-2 in the opening quarter and led 8-5 at halftime. St. Anthony then broke loose with an 18-4 third period and that was the contest.

A. Nuxoll tallied 16 for the winners, scoring 10 in that third quarter surge. CHBC was led by Ellie Miller with six points. The squad drops to 9-9 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony tallied a 36-20 victory. Geen led the way with 15 points. St. Anthony led 10-6 at halftime then had a 15-11 third period run. Geen tallied nine of her points in the third quarter. CHBC was led by Shae Nohren with nine. CHBC drops to 8-11.

In a sixth-grade contest, CHBC was a 6-2 winner.

At Effingham

Effingham split with  Robinson Nuttall in action Tuesday evening.

the Mustangs claimed the seventh-grade contest, 40-8. Taking a 12-2 opening quarter lead, the Mustangs then held Nuttall scoreless with a 16-0 second quarter run.

Donaldson led Effingham with 10 points while Althoff and Beals chipped in with eight each.

In eighth-grade action, Robinson Nuttall edged the Mustangs, 37-33. Nuttall took a 13-8 opening quarter lead and led 22-18 at halftime.  Effingham came back wth a 13-8 third period run to lead 31-30. But Nuttall regained the momentum and had a 7-2 final period.

Makala McDaniel led Effingham with eight points while Reagan Boone tallied seven.

At Windsor

Stewardson-Strasburg tallied two victories over South Central in competition Tuesday evening.

Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade game, 32-17. Leading 17-6 at halftime, Stew-Stras had a 15-11 second half to improve to 12-7 on the season.

Hayes scored 17 for the winners. South Central was led by Swift with six.

In eighth-grade action, Stew-Stras took a 37-27 win. Stew-Stras led 22-9 at halftime. Vonderheide scored 15 and Kinkelaar 10 for the winners as they improved to 14-5.

South Central was led by Webster with 14.
