MARSHALL -- Effingham Junior High School's eighth-grade girls basketball team competed in the Marshall Shootout Saturday.

 

 The Mustangs downed Marshall 43-22. Effingham jumped out to a 14-4 opening quarter lead and led 25-6 at halftime. Elena Niebrugge tallied 11 and Reagan Boone 10.

Effingham then pounded Westville 42-11. Again the Mustangs stepped out to an early lead, 25-4 after the opening quarter.

Olivia Moser tallied 10 for the winners.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis held a seventh and eighth grade girls round robin Saturday.

In the opening two games, Teutopolis defeated Mount Zion. The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade contest, 36-11.

In eighth-grade action, T-town picked up a 38-26 win, leading 21-8 at hafltime. Kaitlyn Vahling tallied 13 for the winners.

In the third game, Dieterich handed Mount Zion a 29-23 seventh-grade loss. Dieterich trailed 12-11 at halftime them had an 18-11 second half. Tegeler led the way for the winners with nine points.

In the eighth-grade contest, Mount Zion claimed a 37-10 victory. Mount Zion had a 14-0 second quarter run. Anderson led the way with 20 points. Dieterich was led by Meinhart with five.

In the final two games, T-town picked up victories over Dieterich. The Shoes claimed the seventh-grade game, 23-13 with a 10-2 opening half. Kelsey Niemerg led in scoring with six points. Dieterich was led by Meinhart with four.

In eighth-grade action, T-town ran off to a 12-2 opening quarter lead and tallied a 42-5 victory. The Shoes were led by Molly Pals with nine points and 10 players scored in the game. Dieterich was led by Brummer and Britton with two each.
