Junior High Girls Basketball -- Nov. 8-9

DIETERICH -- Effingham captured a seventh-grade victory over Dieterich in girls junior high basketball action Friday.

The Mustangs stepped out to a 12-5 opening quarter lead and went on for a 40-15 victory. Armstrong scored 10 while Althoff and Donaldson tallied eight each.

The Mustangs improve to 11-2 on the season.

At Strasburg

Effingham St. Anthony claimed first place at the Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor Eighth-Grade Tournament Saturday.

St. Anthony claimed a 40-23 victory over Cumberland. St. Anthony ran off to a 24-9 opening half lead and never looked back.

The Bullpups were led by S. Kibler with 15 points and H. Niebrugge with nine. Cumberland was led by K. Shoemaker with nine and Sowers with eight.

St. Anthony tallied a 33-26 win in the championship game over Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor. The Bullpups edged ahead 17-14 at halftime then had a 12-2 third period run.

The Bullpups are now 10-6 on the season.

S. Kibler scored 14 for the winners while Niemeyer chipped in with eight. SSW was led by Kinkelaar with 10 and Vonderheide with eight.

Stew-Stras/Windsor opened with a 35-4 win over Effingham Sacred Heart. Stew-Stras/Windsor held an 8-0 opening quarter lead and led 22-2 at halftime.

Kinkelaar scored 16 for the winners. Hecht led the Shamrocks with all four points.

In the third place contest, Cumberland downed Sacred Heart, 35-4. No other information provided.
