Effingham captured two victories over Effingham St. Anthony in junior high girls basketball Thursday.

The Mustangs ran out to 13-1 first half lead and finished out with a 30-5 seventh-grade victory.

Leading Effingham was Donaldson with 10 points and Althoff and Beals with eight each. St. Anthony was led by Soltwedel with two.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham was a 40-34 winner. The Mustangs took an 11-6 opening quarter lead and led 21-14 at halftime. The Bullpups came back to outscore Effingham in the second half, but couldn't make up that first half deficit.

Effingham was led by Volpi with 12 and Moser with nine. St. Anthony was led by Niemeyer with eight.

At Altamont

Altamont and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City split victories Thursday.

CHBC won the seventh-grade contest, 31-28. Trailing 18-11 at halftime, CHBC came back with a 10-6 third period and a 10-4 final quarter run for the 31-28 win.

CHBC was led by Macee Rodman and Madison Dawson with eight each and Ellie Miller with seven. CHBC improves to 7-8 in the National Trail Conference, 4-3 overall.

Altamont was led by Lurkins with nine and Klein with eight.

In the eighth-grade contest, Altamont nabbed a 48-27 victory. Altamont held a 28-8 halftime lead. Nelson scored 20 and P. Osteen tallied 19 for the winners.

CHBC was led by Shae Nohren with 11. CHBC drops to 2-5 in the conference, 8-9 overall.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor tallied two wins over Shelbyville Moulton Thursday.

The winners claimed the seventh-grade contest, 26-11. Stew-Stras/Windsor had an 11-5 halftime lead then held Moulton scoreless in the third period to push ahead 20-5.

VonBehrens led the way with 10 points while Wittenberg and Hayes scored seven each. SSW improved to 10-7.

In eighth-grade play, Stew-Stras/Windsor won 33-13. SSW had a 13-3 opening quarter and led 20-3 at halftime.

Kinkelaar scored 15 for the winners who improve to 11-4.

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) tallied two wins over Jasper-Geff in Thursday evening action.

North Clay was a 29-12 winner in seventh-grade play. North Clay held a 14-5 halftime lead and never looked back.

North Clay was led by Matia Price with 13 and Leah Wetherholt with eight.

In the eighth-grade contest, North Clay moved into a 31-22 halftime lead and led by 14 going into the final quarter. North Clay finished out with a 54-44 win.

Miah Ballard scored 25 points while Alexis VanDyke chipped in with 16. Camdyn Tappendorf was just off double figures with nine.

At Dieterich

Dieterich claimed two victories over Cumberland in action Thursday.

Dieterich won the seventh-grade contest, 39-13. Dieterich moved ahead 17-5 at halftime, holding Cumberland scoreless in the second quarter.

Dieterich was led by K. Tegler with 17 points and B. Niemerg with eight. Cumberland was led by Dittamore and Daughterty with four each.

The eighth-grade contest went into overtime before Dieterich pulled out a 31-29 win. Dieterich stepped out to a 10-4 opening quarter lead.

Cumberland came back to pull within 17-15 at halftime and tied the game at the end of three quarters at 21-21. Both teams scored six in the fourth quarter and the game went into overtime. Dieterich's Britton then scored a basket and hit two free throws for the win.

Westendorf tallied 12 for Dieterich while Sowers led Cumberland with 10.
