Effingham St. Anthony claimed victories over Shelbyville in seventh and eighth-grade girls basketball competition Tuesday.

The Bullpups captured the seventh-grade game with a big-scoring third quarter. The Bullpups held a 7-6 halftime lead then had a 10-2 third period run to pull away.

Nuxoll led St. Anthony with 11 points. Shelbyville was led by Jones with six.

In eighth-grade action, the Bullpups tallied a 37-34 win over Shelbyville.

St. Anthony led by one at halftime then fell behind 29-28 in the third period. St. Anthony then had a 9-5 final period run.

M. Kibler tallied 11 to lead the way while H. Niebrugge and S. Kibler had seven each. Shelbyville was led by K. Musser with 13 points.

The two teams played a sixth-grade contest with Shelbyville taking a 17-10 win.

At Beecher City

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City picked up the eighth-grdae victory but fell in seventh-grade action to Pana Sacred Heart Tuesday.

In seventh-grade play, Pana Sacred Heart claimed a 42-13 win. Taking a 25-9 first half lead, Sacred Heart went on for the victory with two players in double figures. Coleman led the way with 20 while Reed added 14.

CHBC was led by Macee Rodman with eight and fell to 6-9.

In the eighth-grade contest, CHBC downed Sacred Heart 31-23. CHBC trailed 14-10 at halftime and 22-18 going into the final quarter. CHBC then had a 13-1 run to claim the win. CHBC improves 8-8.

CHBC was led by Ruby Stuckemeyer with 13 and Shae Nohren with 12. Pana S.H. was led by Coleman with 15.
