BEECHER CITY -- The National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament got underway Tuesday evening at Beecher City.

In the opener, Dieterich downed Neoga, 32-20.  Dieterich held a slight 14-12 halftime lead then had an 11-4 third period surge.

Ruby Westendorf led the winners with 14 points. Neoga was led by Gracie Eaton with eight.

In the second game, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won over Effingham Sacred Heart, 39-12. CHBC had a 20-2 second half run.

Shae Nohren tallied 14 for the winners. Sacred Heart was led by Anna Albert with five points.

South Central then downed North Clay (Louisville), 45-35 in the final game of the evening.

South Central pulled out to a 25-19 halftime lead then had a 20-16 second half.

Three players hit the double digit mark for the winners. Taegan Webster led the way with 19 points while Hailey Shuler added 13 and Jasmin Modest 10.

North Clay was led by Alexis VanDyke with 18 and Camdyn Tappendorf with 13.

The tournament continues tonight as top-seeded Altamont faces Dieterich at 5:30 followed by Sigel St. Michael against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6:45 and Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor facing Brownstown/St. Elmo at 8.

At Effingham

Effingham split victories with Paris Crestwood in action Tuesday.

The Mustangs fell in the seventh-grade contest, 32-19 to drop to 8-2 on the season.

Crestwood tallied an 18-12 opening half lead then had a 6-1 final period.

Beals led the Mustangs with 10. Watson led Paris Crestwood with 15.

In the eighth-grade game, EJHS was a 36-20 winner. The Mustangs jumped out to a 14-1 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Olivia Moser scored 14 and Reagan Boone 10 for the Mustangs. Taylor Clark and Graci Watson led Crestwood with six each.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony picked up two victories over Flora Tuesday.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest, 22-10. St. Anthony held a 12-5 halftime lead. A. Nuxoll tallied eight points for the winners.

Flora was led by Yager with four points.

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony claimed a 26-13 win. The Bullpups rushed out to an 18-5 opening half lead.

S. Kibler tallied eight for the winners. Jennings led Flora with five.
