EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – This Saturday, SIUE basketball fans can help create awareness and raise funds for breast cancer research.

SIUE plays host to Austin Peay Saturday with a women's game at 4 p.m. followed by a men's contest at 7 p.m. There will be a number of ways fans can help the cause in the Pink Zone.

SIUE women's basketball Head Coach Paula Buscher has a challenge for fans. She will be donating $25 for each three-pointer made by the Cougars during the women's Pink Zone game. She is challenging fans to match her pledge. Fans interested in joining this Challenge can sign up by e-mailing NaDean Schroeder at nschroe@siue.edu.

During the women's game, there will be runners and bikers who will exercise continuously in honor of the fight against breast cancer and for those close to them. The participants will accept pledges/donations during their allotted five-minute game-clock intervals during the game or you can pledge to each of them prior to the game by contacting them.

The list of participants includes SIUE Chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe, SIUE Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Brad Hewitt, Kim Durr, Wendy Hedberg, Kate Affourtit, Maria Sodonas, Katie Bridsall, Cameron Petrie, Janelle Gosa, Todd Burrell, Darleen Harmon, Susan Seibert, Kara Shustrin, Lora Miles, Tracy Zeigler, and Stacy Cutler.

There will be a bucket raffle during the day. Fans can buy tickets and drop it in the bucket of the raffle item they would like to win. Raffle tickets are available for $1 on the night of the games. The raffle will close with five minutes left in the first half of the men's game. A list of raffle bucket prizes, valued between $75 and $500, can be found at www.siuecougars.com/2013PinkZone.

Three silent auction items will be up for bid during the evening. They include an SIUE Pink basketball and a 2013-14 basketball season ticket voucher, a St. Louis Rams helmet autographed by quarterback Sam Bradford, and a St. Louis Rams Steven Jackson authentic jersey autographed by the running back.

All popcorn sales from the game will go directly to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on behalf of SIUE. And, of course, all of the popcorn will be pink.

Fans also are reminded to join the local fight against breast cancer at the 15th Annual Susan G. Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure Saturday, June 15. The Komen St. Louis Race raises funds for life-saving, local breast health programs and groundbreaking breast cancer research. Register for the race at www.komenstlouis.org or at the Pink Zone game.
