Effingham F/S Teams Claim Wins Over Altamont

Effingham High School played host to Altamont in freshman/sophomore boys basketball competition Monday evening and claimed two close wins.

The Hearts won the freshman game 59-52. The contest was close from start to finish. Altamont led 17-14 after the opening quarter and 26-23 at halftime. Effingham came back to take a 42-40 lead going into the final period then had a 17-12 run.

Sean Zerrusen tallied 19 for the Hearts while Michael Woltman chipped in with 10. Jared Minor had eight and Reed Schafer seven. Altamont was led by Wolff and Miller with 15 points each.

In the sophomore game, Effingham edged the Indians 56-55. Once again Altamont took a quick lead at 19-15 after the opening quarter and 31-27 at halftime. The Indians still held a 45-43 lead going into the final quarter when the Hearts had a 13-10 run to pull out the one-point victory.

Michael Carie was the lone Heart in double figures with 25. Frank Kasdorf added eight. Altamont was led by Oder with 15 and Drone with 11.
