Effingham and Mattoon split junior high girls basketball victories Tuesday.

 

The Msutangs claimed the seventh-grade contest, 21-18. EJHS led 11-8 at halftime. Beals tallied seven for the winners while Thompson added six as the Mustangs improved to 2-0.

In eighth-grade action, Mattoon claimed a 24-16 victory. Izzy Volpi tallied nine for the Mustangs who drop to 0-2 on the season.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony handed Neoga two losses in action Tuesday.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest, 31-8. St. Anthony led 12-2 at halftime and never looked back. A. Soltwedel tallied 10 points for the Bullpups. Neoga was led by Richards with four.

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony won 32-11. The Bullpups ripped out to a 21-2 opening half lead. Coffin tallied 16 points for the winners.

Neoga was led by Campbell with eight.

At Vandalia

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City had a rough night, dropping two losses to Vandalia Tuesday.

In the seventh-grade encounter, Vandalia picked up a 26-18 victory. CHBC drop sto 1-1 with the loss. Three players had four points each, Birgen Schlanser, Makayla Thompson and Madison Dawson.

In eighth-grade play, Vandalia won 28-22. Vandalia tore out to a 19-9 opening half lead then held off CHBC (1-1).

Ruby Stuckemeyer led the way for CHBC with eight points.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg claimed two wins over North Clay (Louisville) in Tuesday competition.

Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade game, 17-10. E.Wittenberg and S. Hayes tallied six points each for the winners. North Clay was led by Matia Price and Shelly Pierson with three points each.

In eighth-grade play, Stew-Stras picked up a 32-24 victory. Leading 17-13 at halftime, Stew-Stras then had a 10-6 third quarter run.

Stew-Stras was led by Kinkelaar with 18 points. North Clay was led by Miah Ballard with 10.

Altamont claimed a seventh-grade contest over Dieterich Tuesday evening, 22-17.

Altamont held a 13-10 hafltime lead then had a 9-7 second half. Skylie Klein led the winners with nine points.

Dieterich was led by Kady Tegeler and Brittney Niemerg with six each.

In eighth-grade action, Altamont downed Dieterich, 34-20. Altamont whipped out to a 26-6 halftime lead.

Gurnloh scored 20 for the winners while Bohem added 11.

Dieterich was led by Ruby Westendorf with six.
