SIGEL -- Effingham and Sigel St. Michael split victories in girls junior high school basketball action Monday.

 

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest, 27-15. EJHS took a 15-2 opening quarter lead. Althoff led the way in scoring with 10 points while Beals added eight.

St. Michael was led by Will and Ruholl with six each.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Michael was a 31-22 winner. Hotze tallied 10 for the winners while Hatton chipped in with six.

The Mustangs were led by Izzy Volpi with seven. Effingham hosts Mattoon today.

At St. Anthony

Altamont tallied two victories over Effingham St. Anthony in action Monday.

The seventh-grade contest went to Altamont over the Bullpups, 22-15.

Altamont held a 12-5 opening half lead. Osteen scored all eight of her points in the first half.

In the eighth-grade game, Altamont was a 42-35 winner. Altamont had a 19-10 second period surge to lead 25-19 at halftime then had a 17-16 second half.

Nelson tallied 24 while P. Osteen scored 12 for the winners.

St. Anthony was led by Geen with 12 and H. NIebrugge with 11.

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) captured two wins over South Central in action Monday.

North Clay captured the seventh-grade contest, 28-21. North Clay held a 19-12 opening half lead and led 23-16 going into the final quarter.

Mallory Boose tallied 12 for the winners. South Central was led by Kaitlyn Swift with nine points.

In the eighth-grade game, North Clay captured a 44-25 victory.

Three players hit double figures for the winners. Camdyn Tappendorf tallied 15 while Miah Ballard added 14 and Alexis VanDyke 10.

South Central was led by Taegan Webster with 10.
