Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City captured the championship of the Class 1A South Central Regional Thursday evening. CHBC advances to the Altamont Sectional Monday where the Hornets will face Dieterich at 7:30 p.m.
Teutopolis, Dieterich and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City captured girls regional basketball championships Thursday night and will move on to sectional play next week.
The Lady Shoes played stifling defense and defeated Greenville 35-12 to win the Cumberland Class 2A Regional. The Lady Maroons downed St. Anthony 42-26 to claim the Neoga 1A Regional. The Lady Hornets won over Altamont 74-44 to win the South Central 1A Regional at Farina.
Teutopolis will play Marshall Tuesday night at 7:30pm at the Newton 2A Sectional. Dieterich will play CHBC Monday night at 7:30pm at the Altamont 1A Sectional. Both of those contests will be heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.
Teutopolis 35, Greenville 12
The Lady Shoes overwhelmed a Greenville club that won 18 games this season. Greenville took its only lead of the game 5-4 early in the first quarter and then scored just one more point until the fourth quarter. The Lady Shoes led 8-5 after one quarter, but outscored the Lady Comets 17-1 in the middle two quarters to lead 25-6 after three periods. T-Town outpointed Greenville 10-6 in the final quarter.
Teutopolis held Greenville to three baskets in the game on 22 shots including 10 three-pointers. The Lady Shoes hit 13 of 41 shots including one of three three-point tries for 32%. T-Town made eight of 11 foul shots, committed just five turnovers and grabbed 25 rebounds.
Cierra Thompson led Teutopolis with 13 points while Madeline Hartke scored 11 points. Also for T-Town: Jessica Schumacher five and Chelsey Hardiek, Hannah Bueker and Sara Thoele two each.
Teutopolis improved to 22-7 on the season and captured the school's 20th girls regional championship.
None of the Teutopolis shooters in the Country Financial Three-Point Competition advanced to sectional competition.
Ticket Info For Teutopolis Fans -- All tickets will be sold Monday in the Teutopolis High School office. Second hour, tournament players, managers, other girl basketball players cheerleaders, pomerettes and boy basketball players. Lunch hour, student tickets, students will be allowed to buy one ticket for themselves. From 1-5 p.m., remaining tickets for the public and staff will be available or until all tickets are sold.

Dieterich 42, St. Anthony 26
Donetta Ohnesorge's Lady Maroons captured Dieterich's first girls regional championship in any sport in the school's history.
Dieterich held a 12-7 lead after one quarter and continued to build on the advantage throughout the game. The Maroons outscored the Lady Bulldogs 12-5 in the second quarter to lead 24-12 at halftime, outscored St. Anthony 10-8 in the third quarter to lead 34-20, and outpointed the Bulldogs 8-6 in the final period to post the 16-point win.
Dieterich shot 30% from the field, making 13 of 43 shots including four of eight three-pointers. The Maroons made 12 of 16 foul shots, overcame 23 turnovers and pulled down 33 rebounds.
St. Anthony made just 23% of its shots, 10 of 44, including two of 14 three-pointers. The Bulldogs made four of eight foul shots, committed 23 turnovers and grabbed 23 rebounds.
Dieterich's Candace Niemerg led all scorers with 16 points including 10 of 11 foul shots and claimed 17 rebounds including five offensive boards. She also had four assists. Katilyn Meinhart scored 11 points. Also for Dieterich: Taylor Wright six, Sydney Higgs five, and Courtney Flach and Mallorie Vahling two each.
For St. Anthony, Makayla Walsh scored 12 points. Also for the Bulldogs: Kate Richards four, Melissa Bushur and Morgan Gardewine three each, and Lexie Niebrugge and Megan Nuxoll two each.
Dieterich improved to 18-11 on the season with the win and will square off against CHBC in another battle of the Wendte sisters, Donetta (Wendte) Ohnesorge for Dieterich and Carolyn Wendte for CHBC.
St. Anthony sees its season end at 19-11. The Lady Bulldogs say farewell to senior Melissa Bushur.
Those advancing from the Neoga Regional in the Country Financial Three-Point Competition were E.C. Thies of Neoga who made nine, Makayla Walsh of St. Anthony with seven, and Candace Niemerg and Taylor Wright of Dieterich, each with five.
Ticket Info for Dieterich Fans -- Tickets are $5 and all seats are general admission for the sectional. Tickets go on sale for players, school personnel, board members and sportsbackers at 10 a.m. today. Tickets for the public will go on sale at 11 a.m.

CHBC 74, Altamont 44
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City took an early lead and then held off a final quarter challenge to claim the championship of the 1A South Central Regional.
The Hornets led Altamont 20-10 after the opening quarter and 37-14 at halftime. The Hornets continued their relentless scoring with a 19-9 third period run. Altamont did have a final 21-18 quarter challenge but fell short.
Micah Jones tallied 26 while Ava Paruleski scored 20 and Autumn Riley 12 for the winners.
"Ava started us out on fire in the first quarter as they double and triple-teammed Micah," said CHBC Coach Carolyn Wendte. "That forced our other girls to step up. We kept forcing tempo and scored off of their turnovers. Micah kicked it in gear in the second half as they had to come out on Ava and some of the others."
Altamont was led by Maddie Ohnesorge with 20.
CHBC advances to face Dieterich Monday in the Altamont Sectional. CHBC and Dieterich will meet in the second game at 7:30 p.m. It will be sister against sister as Carolyn Wendte an Donetta Ohnesorge square off.
"It's going to be tough to see either one lose, but you always are happy for the winner no matter which one it is," said Wendte.
In the opener, Hume Shiloh takes on Moweaqua Central A&M at 6 p.m.
Ticket Info for CHBC Fans -- Tickets for the sectional go on sale at Beecher City and Cowden-Herrick high schools today. Players will be allowed to purchase tickets at 1 p.m. while tickets for the general public will be on sale from 1:30-4 p.m.

Marshall 55, Newton 36
Marshall defeated Newton 55-36 to win the Marshall 2A Regional Thursday evening.
Marshall stepped out to an 18-7 opening quarter lead on the Eagles and led 32-18 at halftime. Newton came back with a 12-11 third quarter run but fell short in the final period 12-6.
Carly Niebrugge and Morgan Swingler led the Eagles with eight points each while Megan Jansen chipped in with seven. Andrea Cartright and Megan Jansen led in rebounds with five each. Newton ends its season with a 20-9 record.
"The girls fought hard tonight but just could not overcome the early deficit," said Newton Coach Brad Harris. "These seniors have been through a lot during the last four years. It was an honor to get to coach them this year."

Red Hill (Bridgeport) 51, North Clay (Louisville) 37
In the championship game of the Class 1A Edwards County (Albion) Regional, Red Hill pulled out the victory over North Clay.
Red Hill edged out to a 7-3 opening quarter lead but went on a tear to lead 24-13 at halftime. Red Hill had a 27-24 second half run. T. Paulin led the winners with 25 points while Western tallied 11.
North Clay was led by Kortney Stanfield with 11 and Rachel Smith 10.
