Class 8-4A Mahomet-Seymour Sectional
Effingham Junior High School saw its 17-game winning streak and its season come to an end in the Mahomet-Seymour Sectional Wednesday evening.
The Mustangs fell to Champaign Jefferson 48-38. Champaign Jefferson advances to the state tournament with a 22-2 record.
Jefferson edged out to a 9-3 opening quarter lead. Effingham came back with a 14-13 second period run to pull within 22-17 at halftime. Jefferson then took off to a 12-4 third quarter run. The Mustangs attempted a comeback in the final period, outscoring Jefferson 17-14 but couldn't overcome the third period deficit.
Beals tallied 15 for the Mustangs while Donaldson chipped in with 12. Beals led in rebounding with five while Donaldson and Koenig had four each. Wolfe led in assists with six. Koenig had two steals.
Effingham ends the season with a 22-2 record.

Class 8-3A Marshall Sectional
Teutopolis stepped out to an early lead then held off a second period challenge for a 37-32 win over Marshall to claim the sectional championship.
T-town edged out to a 14-6 lead but Marshall came back within 21-17 at halftime. T-town had a slight 8-6 third period edge and Marshall outscored the Shoes 9-8 in the final period.
Blake Mette tallied 12 and Mitch Hardiek 11 for the Shoes. T-town improved to 20-6 on the season and will face Rockford Marshall (14-9) at 10 a.m. Saturday at Monticello Middle School.

Class 8-2A Effingham St. Anthony Sectional

Altamont handed Arcola a 44-22 loss to claim the championship of the St. Anthony Sectional.
Altamont trailed Arcola 11-8 after the opening quarter but came back to lead 18-13 at halftime. Evan Cornett tallied six in the third period as Altamont continued its run with a 15-2 score.
Ryan Armstrong led the winners with 17 points while Cornett tallied 10. Altamont advances to the 8-2A State Tournament Saturday with a 22-2 record to face Elmwood (19-4) at 11:30 a.m. at Downs Tri-Valley High School.

Class 8-1A Palestine Sectional
Sigel St. Michael captured the championship of the Palestine Sectional with a 47-31 win over Kansas.
St. Michael now advances to the 8-1A State Tournament with a 22-3 record and will face Crescent City (20-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Auburn High School.
