Altamont, CHBC, T-town, Newton Advance to Girls Regional Title Games

Class 1A South Central Regional

Altamont and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City claimed victories Tuesday evening and will now square off for the championship of the Class 1A South Central Regional.

In the opening game Tuesday evening, CHBC blasted Ramsey to the tune of 79-17. The Hornets took a 23-4 opening quarter lead and it was just a matter of the clock running out.

Four players scored in double figures for the winners. Micah Jones led the way with 26 points while Ava Paruleski tallied 13 and Autumn Riley and Kirby Herrmann scored 11 each.

The Hornets advance with a 22-5 record.

In the second contest, Altamont downed St. Elmo/Brownstown 54-32. The Indians held a 27-22 halftime lead then had a 15-6 third period run.

Madison Ohnesorge, a 5-foot-6 junior, tallied 17 for the winners. Abbe Stevenson scored 15 and Macy Wendling 13. St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Audriana Pruett with 10.

The Indians will now take on CHBC at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

Class 2A Cumberland Regional

This was a close one from the start. Vandalia took a 13-10 opening quarter lead and led 25-17 at halftime. The Wooden Shoes still trailed 33-27 going into the final quarter then ripped off a 17-10 final period run to pull out a 44-43 victory.

In the final quarter, T-town's Madeline Hartke tallied eight points while Cierra Thompson chipped in with five and Jessica Schumacher scored her only two baskets.

Hartke finished with 22 points while Thompson chipped in with 13. Thompson pulled down five rebounds and had five steals and two assists. Hartke had eight steals, four rebounds and two assists. Amber Bruno led Vandalia with 17 points.

In the second game Tuesday evening, Greenville defeated Flora 41-31.

T-town will now face Greenville at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

Class 2A Marshall Regional

Newton and Marshall will square off for the regional title Thursday at 7:30 p.m. after both teams picked up victories Tuesday evening.

Marshall opened the evening with a 60-30 win over  Lawrenceville.

In the second game, Newton bounced Casey-Westfield 69-39. The Eagles stepped out to a 22-8 opening quarter lead and led 37-22 at halftime.

Morgan Swingler tallied 15 for the winners while Andrea Cartright, off the bench, contributed 13, Carly Niebrugge 12 and Tara Wirth 10. Swingler pulled down five rebounds. Megan Jansen had five steals.

"We had a very balanced game tonight," said Newton Coach Brad Harris. "The girls came out and played relaxed and it showed with the scoring. Every one of these girls puts the team ahead of their individual stats. It was a true team effort on offense and defense. Now for the next step. Marshall is a great team. We will need that totally team effort o knock them off."

The Eagles improve to 20-8.
