Bulldogs Outlast Cougars in Boys NTC Action

The St. Anthony Bulldogs edged the South Central Cougars 30-28 in boys National Trail Conference basketball action Tuesday night. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.
To say the game was low-scoring would be a colossal understatement. St. Anthony led 6-3 after one quarter and 17-13 at halftime. The Bulldogs had pulled ahead 27-22 after three quarters before South Central held St. Anthony to three foul shots in the fourth quarter. South Central, though, could only muster six points and St. Anthony held on to win by two points.
St. Anthony only made two shots from the field in the second half.
St. Anthony made 11 of 33 shots for 33% including two of 10 three-point tries, made six of nine foul shots, turned the ball over 15 times and grabbed 26 rebounds.
South Central made 13 of 32 shots for 41% including one of three three-point shots, made just one foul shot in just five tries, turned the ball over 10 times and pulled down 33 rebounds.
Jacob Schuette scored 13 points to lead St. Anthony. Also for the Bulldogs: Neil Williams five, Jason Vogel four, Charlie Schultz and Zach Gardewine three points each, and Andrew Gardewine two points.
South Central's Fischer Tharp led all scorers with 15 points. Also for South Central: Rudy Hablewitz six, Brett Harmeier three, and Joel Rose and Austin Schwarm two points apiece.
St. Anthony improved to 9-16 with the win, with eight of those wins against conference opponents, while South Central dropped to 8-16.
St. Anthony won the JV game 42-34.
