T-town, S.C. Nab F/S Tourney Titles; EHS Advances

NEOGA -- Teutopolis captured the championship of the Neoga Freshman/Sophomore Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes edged Altamont in the title contest 69-62.

The third-place game went to Effingham St. Anthony over Dieterich 54-42. The Bulldogs held a 27-16 halftime lead. The two teams tallied 13 points each in the third quarter and 14 points each in the final period.

Three players hit double figures for St. Anthony. Grunloh tallied 13, Jay Niebrugge 11 and Jeff Niebrugge 10.

Dieterich was led by Feldhake with 21 and Poe with 11.

HILLSBORO FRESHMAN TOURNAMENT

Effingham advanced to the championship game of the Hillsboro Freshman Tournament.

The Hearts handily defeated Auburn 64-45. Auburn stepped out to an 11-6 opening quarter lead but Effingham came roaring back with a 25-8 second period run to lead 31-19 at halftime.  The Hearts continued their assault with a 17-2 third period surge.

Only one player hit double figures as 12 players scored in the contest. Jared Minor scored 12 while Brady Scott and Joe Nieman were next with seven points each.

Effingham advances to the title game Thursday at 8 p.m. against either Taylorville or Pana. Those two teams meet Wednesday evening at 7:15. Auburn drops into the third place game against the loser of those two teams.

In the second game Monday evening, Hillsboro edged Vandalia 33-32 in consolation bracket play. Hillsboro advances to the consolation championship Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against either Greenville or Marquette. Those two teams play Wednesday evening.

ST. ELMO FRESHMAN/SOPHOMORE TOURNAMENT

South Central was proclaimed the winner of the St. Elmo Freshman/Sophomore Tournament.

The Cougars defeated North Clay (Louisville) 64-40 in the title contest. In the third-place game, St. Elmo defeated Beecher City 47-44. The fifth-place contest went to Cowden-Herrick over Mulberry Grove 48-42.

Named to the All-Tournament Team were Evan Langley (South Central), Gavin Ratterman (South Central), Austin Hartsey (North Clay), Malachi Maxey (St. Elmo), Austin Rexroad (Beecher City) and Dylan Barnes (Cowden-Herrick).
