Class 1A South Central Regional

Host South Central saw its girls basketball season come to a close with a 49-38 loss to Ramsey in opening round regional play Monday evening.

The Cougars edged out to an 8-5 opening quarter lead and led 17-11 at halftime. But Ramsey came roaring back with a third quarter 22-8 run and went on for the 11-point victory.

Rainey tallied 28 to lead Ramsey while Seaton chipped in with 11. Rainey dropped in five three's in the contest. South Central was led by senior Macie Cain with 22. The Cougars end the season at 0-25.

Fifth-seeded Ramsey advances to meet top-seeded Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6 p.m. today followed by second-seeded Altamont meeting third-seeded St. Elmo/Brownstown at 8 p.m.

Class 1A Neoga Regional

In opening round play at the Neoga Regional, Palestine/Hutsonville captured the victory.

Palestine/Hutsonville edged Oblong 41-40. The winners, seeded fourth, advance to meet top-seeded Dieterich Wednesday at 6 p.m. The second game Wednesday will be Effingham St. Anthony against Neoga at 8 p.m.

Class 1A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

Cisne was the opening round winner at the Edwards County Regional Monday evening.

The Runnin' Lions opened with a 42-29 win over Edwards County (Albion). Cisne advances to meet Red Hill (Bridgeport) at 6 p.m. Wednesday. In the second contest, North Clay (Louisville) takes on Noble at 8 p.m.

Class 2A Marshall Regional

Fifth-seeded Lawrenceville handed fourth-seeded Robinson a 48-43 loss in opening round action at the Marshall Regional.

Lawrenceville now has to face top-seeded Marshall tonight at 6. In the second game, second-seeded Newton takes on third-seeded Casey-Westfield at 8.

Class 2A Cumberland Regional

Vandalia, seeded fourth, handed Cumberland, seeded fifth, a season-ending loss in opening round play at the Cumberland Regional.

The Vandals trailed Cumberland 14-13 after the opening quarter but came back to lead 27-24 at halftime. Vandalia then had a 13-10 third period run and outdistanced the Pirates 22-11 in the final quarter.

Amber Bruno led the Vandals with 34 points. Bruno had eight field goals and was 14 of 22 at the line.

Cumberland was led by Kamisha Holsapple with 21 points and Tiffany Shull with 15.

Vandalia now advances to face top-seeded Teutopolis tonight at 6 followed by second-seeded Greenville taking on No. 3 Flora at 8.
