Boys Freshman/Sophomore Tournament Scores

HILLSBORO -- Effingham High School advanced in the Hillsboro Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Hearts bounced host Hillsboro 71-26 in the second game of the day. The Hearts took a 16-5 opening quarter lead and never looked back, leading 34-7 at halftime and 54-21 going into the final quarter.
Jared Minor tallied 15 and Michael Woltman 11 for the winners as all 13 players scored in the contest.
EHS will now advance to meet Auburn today at 7:15 p.m. The winner will advance to the championship game Thursday.

At Neoga
Teutopolis and Altamont advanced to the championship game of the Neoga Freshman/Sophomore Tournament Saturday.
Teutopolis handed Dieterich a 66-41 loss in the opening game Saturday. In the second contest, Altamont was a 44-28 winner over Effingham St. Anthony.
St. Anthony will take on Dieterich at 6:15 p.m. today for third place while Teutopolis squares off against Altamont at around 7:30 p.m. for the championship.

The St. Elmo Freshman/Sophomore Boys Tournament opened play Saturday with six games.

Game 1 -- St. Elmo 53, Cowden-Herrick 38
Game 2 -- North Clay (Louisville) 57, St. Elmo 46
Game 3 -- South Central 51, Beecher City 18
Game 4 -- South Central 56, Mulberry Grove 27
Game 5 -- North Clay (Louisville) 66, Cowden-Herrick 46
Game 6 -- Beecher City 40, Mulberry Grove 27
The tournament comes to a close tonight with Cowden-Herrick taking on Mulberry Grove at 5:30 p.m. for fifth place, St. Elmo against Beecher City at 6:45 p.m. for third place and South Central facing North Clay (Louisville) at 8 p.m. for the championship.
