Lady Hearts Win 19th Straight

The Effingham Lady Hearts won their 19th straight game Monday night, downing the Paris Lady Tigers 59-38 at EHS Gym. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.
Effingham and Paris played a good first quarter with Effingham leading 17-13 at the end of the period. The Hearts shifted into another gear in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers 23-7 to take a 40-20 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw Paris make a run at Effingham, outsoring the Hearts 12-7 to move within 47-32, but the Hearts regrouped and outscored Paris 12-6 in the final stanza to post the 21-point win.
Effingham made 43% of its shots, hitting 21 of 49 including six of 15 three-point tries. The Lady Hearts made 11 of 17 foul shots, committed 16 turnovers and grabbed 29 rebounds. Paris was held to 39% shooting, 16 of 41.
Josie Zerrusen, who had scored 22 for Effingham at Paris earlier this season, finished with 21 points Monday on eight of 14 shooting. Kelli Utz scored 13 points including three threes. Stephanie Robb scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Also for Effingham: Caitlin Kaufman and Lauren Stephenson five points each, Felicia Totten and Morgan Weiser two each, Maddy Field one point, and contributions from Jantzen Michael, Britanny Beals and Taylor Willis.
Paris was led by Megan Temples with 19 points.
Effingham is now 23-3 on the season and 9-0 in the Apollo Conference. The Lady Hearts will try to run the table on the conference Thursday night as they play host to the Salem Lady Wildcats.
Paris won the JV game 33-30. Maddy Field scored 13 points for Effingham, Lauren Stephenson nine and Britanny Beals four.
