Dieterich, Altamont, T-town Advance To Sectionals

Three area junior high boys basketball teams captured regional titles and advanced to sectional play after picking up victories Thursday evening.

Class 7-1A Stewardson-Strasburg Regional

Dieterich edged Stewardson-Strasburg 32-31 to claim the championship. Stew-Stras held a 20-16 halftime lead but Dieterich came back with a 6-4 third quarter run and outscored the Stars 10-7 in the final period to pull out the victory.

Radloff led the winners with 14 points. Stew-Stras was led by Quast with 12 points. Stew-Stras finishes the season at 14-6.

Dieterich will compete in the Stew-Stras Sectional against Palestine at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 30. The winner advances to the state tournament.

Class 7-2A Findlay Okaw Valley Regional

Altamont had a close one against Nokomis and pulled out a 42-40 victory.

Nokomis held a 12-10 opening quarter lead and led by the same two-point margin at halftime, 23-21. Nokomis went into the final quarter in charge of the game with a 33-30 lead. But Altamont rallied as B. Runge connected on four points, three from the free throw line, and M. Stevenson knocked down a three-pointer. Altamont had a 12-7 final period run.

Runge finished with 10 points and Stevenson nine. Altamont advances to the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional against host St. Anthony Wednesday, January 30 at 6 p.m. The winner of that games advances to the state tournament.

7-2A Findlay Okaw Valley Regional

Class 7-3A Assumption Regional

Teutopolis had a relatively easy time of beating host Assumption Central A&M to claim the championship, 47-23.

The Wooden Booties held a 26-9 halftime lead and never looked back. Collin Funneman tallied 14 and Landon Jansen 10 for the winners. T-town improves to 20-5 on the season and will face Marshall in the Shelbyville Sectional Wednesday, January 30 at 6 p.m. The winner heads to the state tournament.

7-3A Assumption Regional

Class 7-3A Casey-Westfield Regional

Marshall handed Robinson Nuttall a 40-28 loss to claim the championship of the Casey-Westfield Regional.

Marshall will now face Teutopolis Wednesday, January 30 at 6 p.m.at the Shelbyville Sectional for the right to advance to the state tournament.

Class 7-4A Charleston Regional

Danville North Ridge poured out the points in taking the championship of the Charleston Regional.

North Ridge defeated Urbana 54-32. North Ridge advances to the Effingham Sectional Wednesday, January 30 at 6 p.m. against Champaign Franklin. Champaign Franklin defeated Monticello 36-18 to advance to the sectional.
