Wooden Shoes To Play For Girls State Crown

NORMAL -- It's a rematch and this time around the Teutopolis High School girls basketball team is looking for a state crown.

The Wooden Shoes took care of business at the Class 2A State Girls Basketball Tournament at Redbird Arena Friday evening by downing St. Joseph-Ogden, 50-31. T-town advances with a 33-4 record to face Marshall with a 26-8 record for the state championship at 7:15 p.m. Saturday. We'll broadcast the game live on KJ Country 102.3. You can also listen live online here. St. Joseph-Ogden (28-5) meets Hillsboro (20-6) at 5:30 p.m. for third place.

Ttown girls redbud

In the opener, Chicago Marshall handed Hillsboro a 50-41 loss. Marshall took a victory over T-town in last year's state tournament in the opening game and played for the state championship while the Wooden Shoes captured third place.

This time around Coach Laurie Thompson's crew is looking for a state crown.

The Shoes edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead on St. Joseph-Ogden Friday evening and moved that to 19-15 at halftime. T-town then went on a tear in the second half with a 31-16 run.

Sadie Bueker led the way in scoring with 17 points while Claire Bushur chipped in with 13. On the verge of double figures was Lexie Niebrugge with nine and Olivia  Niemerg contributed seven.

Bushur pulled down 10 rebounds while Bueker added eight. Niemerg and Morgan Mette led in assists with two each. Bueker blocked two shots.

St. Joseph-Ogden was led by only one player in double figures, Bree Trimble with 10. Peyton Crowe contributed nine. The squad dropped into the third place game with a 28-5 record.

A Welcome Home reception will be held for the Teutopolis High School girls basketball team on Sunday.

A parade/fire truck ride will begin from the high school at 12:30pm. After a parade through town, a reception will be held in J.H. Griffin Gym at the high school at approximately 1pm.
