SEB Nabs Regional Title, Neoga, South Central Fall

ST. ELMO -- St. Elmo/Brownstown High School and Altamont played to a 16-16 opening quarter tie in the Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Boys Basketball Regional Friday evening.

But the Eagles took off to a 33-26 halftime lead. The Indians had a 9-8 third period lead and finished out with an 18-15 final period but couldn't make up for that second quarter run by SEB.

Nick Rosborough was the catalyst for the Eagles in the second period nailing two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight points. He finished with 10 points. Leading the way was Andy Goldsborough with 12 and Jacob Baron with 11.

Altamont was led by Alek Biggs with 24 points. Also in double figures were Aidan Jahraus with 13 and Noah Teasley with 10. The Indians knocked in 10 three-pointers in the game.

St. Elmo/Brownstown advances with a 22-12 record to the Altamont Sectional Tuesday evening where the Eagles will face Nokomis, a 60-31 winner over Neoga. In the Wednesday contest, Moweaqua Central A&M will take on Odin at 7 p.m. Odin downed South Central 36-21 to claim its own regional championship. Moweaqua Central A&M won over Buffalo Tri-City 70-43 to win the Edinburg Regional.

Class 1A Neoga Regional

Nokomis High School claimed the championship of the Neoga Regional by downing the host squad 60-31 Friday evening.

Nokomis edged out to a 15-10 opening quarter lead but went to a 27-16 halftime tally.  From there, Nokomis took control, outscoring the Indians 15-6 in the third period.

Sabol led Nokomis with 18 points while Tosetti tallied 16.

Neoga was led by Reece Johnson with 11 and Trevor Roy with 10.

Class 1A Odin  Regional

Odin came up the winner in its own Class 1A Boys Basketball Regional Friday evening. The Eagles downed South Central, 36-21.

Odin edged out to a 6-4 opening quarter lead before taking a 14-8 halftime tally. Shaffer led Odin with 23 points.

South Central was led by Logan Lotz with 15. The Cougars finished the season 19-13 overall and 4-4 in the National Trail Conference. It's the first time the Cougars have been over the .500 mark since the 2008-09 season.

Lotz, a 5-foot-8 senior, finished his career with 1,257 points.
