Lady Indians Sees Great Season Come to a Close

Tri-County defeated Altamont 74-65 Thursday night in the championship game of the Class 1A Girls Sectional at Central A&M High School in Moweaqua.

Tri-County, which had ended St. Anthony's season earlier this week, held a 19-12 lead after the first quarter, and was up 45-31 at halftime. 

Altamont had closed to within 57-46 after three quarters and made it a nine-point final, outscoring Tri-County 19-17 in the final quarter.

Altamont shot 42% from the field, 21 of 49 including 6 of 18 threes. The Lady Indians made 17 of 22 foul shots, grabbed 28 rebounds but turned the ball over a whopping 22 times.

Tri-County shot just 37% from the field, 21 of 56, but made 50% of their three-point tries, 10 of 20, and made 22 of 29 free throws. Tri-County grabbed 29 rebounds and turned the ball over 18 times.

Leah Mayhaus led Altamont with 17 points, while Tinley Mette was also in double figures with 12 points. Also for Altamont: Brooke Runge 9, Mary Guse 8, JoAnna Schultz 7, Allyson Hardiek 6, Ellie McManaway 4, and Rachel Jackman 2.

Altamont closes its season with a 29-5 record.
