Neoga, Altamont, S.C., Newton, WSS Nab Girls Victories

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School ended regular season play with a 54-42 win over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran in girls basketball action Thursday.
The Indians ran off to a 14-9 opening quarter lead. The two teams played even in the second period before Altamont went on a 14-4 third quarter tear.
Mary Guse led the way for Altamont with 13 points followed by Leah Mayhaus 11 and JoAnna Schultz 10. Mayhaus pulled down nine rebounds while Schultz added seven. Guse led in assists with three and steals with three. Schultz had one blocked shot.
Altamont is now 26-3 on the season and will head into Class 1A regional play Tuesday at the South Central Regional against the winner of the South Central vs. Ramsey contest.
The Indians junior varsity team captured a 54-25 win over Sandoval. Altamont finished the JV season unbeaten with a 14-0 record.

At Farina
South Central edged Wayne City, 61-57 in non-conference action Friday evening.
The Cougars edged ahead 15-14 in the first quarter but trailed Wayne City 27-26 at halftime. South Central moved into a 42-41 lead going into the final quarter then had a 19-16 run.
Laney Webster and Katlyn Hilmes provided the one-two scoring punch with 19 points each for the Cougars. Hilmes nailed five three-pointers in the game. Kayli Swift and Sydnee Garrett added nine points each.
South Central is 4-20 on the season and will be back in action Monday at its own 1A regional against Ramsey at 7 p.m.

At Neoga
The score was tied at 26-26 at halftime before Neoga took control in the second half and claimed a 72-56 win over Dieterich as two National Trail Conference teams clashed Thursday.
Neoga led 11-5 to start the game but Dieterich tied with a 21-15 second period run. The Indians then got things going into the right direction with a 27-14 third quarter.
Four players hit double figures for the winners. Olivia Titus tallied 20 points while Mary Hill scored 14, Audrey Ramert added 13 and Kylee Phillips had 12.
Dieterich had even scoring as Gracie Britton, Jenny Robards and Andrea Bierman had 12 points each and Brooke Locey added 11.
Neoga improves to 14-15 and 3-5 in the NTC. The Indians will be in regional action Wednesday at the Class 1A Arcola Regional. Neoga will take on Arcola at 7:30 p.m.
Dieterich will be back in action Monday at the Class 1A Palestine Regional against Palestine-Hutsonville at 7 p.m.

At Newton
Newton played host to Casey-Westfield and trounced the visitors, 50-18 in action Thursday.
The Warriors took an 11-8 opening quarter lead but Newton came back with a 17-3 second period and held Casey-Westfield scoreless in the third quarter while moving ahead 43-14.
The Eagles were led by Brooke Jansen with 13 and Whitney Zumbahlen with 11. Jansen had six rebounds. Allison Harris led in assists with five. Claire Carr and Eliza Bierman had two steals each.
Newton improves to 8-18 on the season and will take on Casey-Westfield again in the Class 2A Robinson Regional Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged ahead 14-13 against North Clay (Louisville) in the opening quarter and eventually captured a 69-50 victory Thursday.
WSS led 35-28 at halftime. The Cardinals came back with a 16-12 third period before the Hatchets had a 22-6 final period for the victory.
Hannah Hayes, a 5-foot-7 sophomore, and Nikki Trussell, a 5-foot-9 senior, led the winners with 21 points each. Megan Schlechte added 13.
North Clay was led by Madison Lovett with 21 points.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged ahead of Nokomis 11-8 in the opening quarter and led 27-18 at halftime.
Nokomis then started a comeback with a 12-8 third period to pull within 35-30 going into the final quarter. From there, Nokomis had a 22-8 run to pull out a 52-43 victory.
CHBC was led by Jaelyn Robertson, a junior, with 25 points. She hit nine of 10 field goals, including two of two from three-point range, and was five of nine at the line.
Lauren Wojcik led in rebounds with 11 and assists with five. She also had a blocked shot. Robertson had four steals.
