St. Anthony, Altamont Split Frosh/Soph Boys Wins

ALTAMONT -- Effingham St. Anthony claimed a 54-39 victory over Altamont in freshman boys basketball Saturday.

The Bulldogs held a 33-18 halftime lead and played Altamont even in the second half. Martelli tallied 16, Grunloh 11, Je. Niebrugge 11 and Ja. Niebrugge 10 for the winners. Grunloh had 12 rebounds and Ja. Niebrugge nine. Altamont was led by Hosick with nine.

Altamont claimed the sophomore contest 58-54. The Indians edged out to a 39-30 halftime lead and led 48-42 going into the final quarter. St. Anthony attempted a comeback but fell short.

Drone tallied 18, Goeckner 15 and Oder 12 for the winners. St. Anthony was led by Rios with 16, Z. Gardewine and A. Gardewine with 11 each. Rios had six rebounds. Greene had three assists.
