Effingham St. Anthony is headed to the Class 7-2A State Tournament.
Effingham St. Anthony captured the championship of the Class 7-2A North Clay (Louisville) Boys Basketball Sectional Wednesday.
St. Anthony edged out to a 6-5 opening quarter lead on Paris Crestwood and held that one point lead at halftime,18-17. St. Anthony's Colin Westendorf then scored seven points in the third quarter and the lead zoomed up to 25-17.
Westendorf finished with 15 points to lead the Bullpups.
The Bullpups will head to the Class 7-2A State Tournament at Bartonville Limestone Saturday for a 10 a.m. contest. If they win, they will play again at 5 p.m. in the semifinals.

Class 7-1A Stew-Stras Sectional
Newton St. Thomas claimed the championship of the Class 7-1A Stewardson-Strasburg Sectional Wednesday.
St. Thomas edged out to a 17-11 opening quarter lead on Pana Sacred Heart then pushed that to 25-13 at halftime.
Two players hit double figures for St. Thomas. K. Bergbower tallied 11 while Gier chipped in with 10.
St. Thomas is 18-0 on the season and will head to the Class 7-1A State Tournament at East Peoria Junior High School and face the winner of the Waverly vs. Griggsville-Perry game at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Class 8-2A Dieterich Regional
There was a barn-burner of a contest Wednesday at the Class 8-2A Dieterich Regional.
Casey-Westfield and Dieterich squared off for the championship. Casey-Westfield came out a 43-35 winner in double overtime. Casey-Westfield heads to its own sectional and will take on Effingham St. Anthony Wednesay, February 6 at 6:30 p.m.
