MOUNT ZION -- Effingham High School bounced back from a loss at the hands of Teutopolis Friday evening, to pick up a 64-38 win over Mount Zion in Apollo Conference play Saturday in girls basketball.

The Hearts ripped out to an 18-9 opening quarter lead and led 38-20 at halftime.

"This was a huge effort after losing a tough one last night," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "We came out with a lot more intensity and shot the ball really well. All five starters were between nine and 16 points.

"We played together so much better today and it showed. Mount Zion is a very good team and to score 62 points in three quarters is really saying something."

Abby Weis led the way for the Hearts with 16 points while Carsyn Fearday added 13, Natalie Carie 12 and Miranda Fox 10. Skyler Schafer finished with nine.

The Hearts are 8-1 in the conference and 21-4 overall.
