Effingham High School captured an Apollo Conference victory over Mount Zion, 71-52 in boys basketball action Friday.

 

The Hearts stepped out to a 25-13 opening quarter lead then had a 20-7 second period run to lead 45-20 at halftime.

Landon Wolfe, a 6-foot-5 senior, led the way for the Hearts with 34 points. He connected on eight field goals and was 12 of 14 at the line. Two other players hit double figures. Parker Wolfe tallied 13 and Drew Thompson added 11.

At Breese

Teutopolis pulled out an exciting victory over Breese Mater Dei Friday evening, 44-42.

The Wooden Shoes led 26-17 at halftime. But Mater Dei came back with a 25-18 second half to make the game exciting.

Three players scored 10 points each for the Wooden Shoes. Dawson Smith, Mitch Hardiek and Clint Weber led the way for the Shoes. Evan Wermert chipped in with nine.

In a Saturday contest at Taylorville, T-town again pulled out a victory, this one by one point, 52-51.

The Shoes held a 15-12 opening quarter lead and led 30-27 at halftime. Taylorville came back with a 13-10 third period run to tie the score at 40-40. T-town then pulled out the win.

Weber led the way with 23 points while Smith added 14.

At Arcola

Tri-County captured first place at the Little Okaw Valley Conference Championship Night Saturday at Arcola High School.

Tri-County defeated LSA, 72-66 for the title.

The two divisions of the LOVC played separate tournaments. The teams then advanced to the championship night.

The two second place finishers met for third place with Villa Grove-Heritage downing Cerro Gordo Bement, 59-34.

Cumberland and Arcola placed third in the separate tournaments then squared off with the Pirates coming out a 51-46 winner.

The Purple Riders took a 14-9 opening quarter lead and led 26-22 at halftime. The Pirates then had a big 16-7 run to lead going into the final quarter and held off Arcola for the win.

Alex Talley was the leader for the Pirates with 17 points.

In the third place game Friday in the SE Division LOVC Tournament, Cumberland downed Hutsonville/Palestine 63-47.

The Pirates held a 27-20 halftime lead and had a 19-14 third period run. Cutts again led the way for the Pirates with 19 points while Zach Wolke chipped in with 16.

In Friday's SE Division, Tri-County beat Villa Grove-Heritage 72-66 for the championship. Oblong downed Martinsville 63-39 for the consolation title.

In Saturday's championship night, Farmer City/Blue Ridge defeated Hutsonville-Palestine, 63-37 for seventh place, Okaw Valley beat Oblong 58-30 for ninth and Argenta-Oreana won over Martisnville 51-41 for 11th.

 Little Illini Conference Tournament

Olney captured the championship of the Little Illini Conference Tournament by beating Casey-Westfield, 43-39.

Third place went to Red Hill (Bridgeport) over Marshall, 56-50.

The consolation championship went to Lawrenceville downing Robinson 71-6-4 in overtime.
