EHS Moves To 3-0, Area Girls Tourney Roundup

Effingham High School picked up another victory in its own Girls Round Robin Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.
The Hearts dominated against Centralia, taking a 61-29 victory. EHS took a 15-8 opening quarter lead and led 28-18 at halftime. EHS then had a 33-11 second half.
Carsyn Fearday led the way for the Hearts with 18 points. She connected on five field goals and was eight of 10 at the line. Two other players also hit double digits. Abby Weis, who will be signing with Lake Land College, finshed with 15. She was four of eight from three point range. Miranda Fox chipped in with 11 and Natalie Carie was on the verge of double figures with nine.
In the opening game of the evening, Pana was a 48-29 winner over Vandalia.
EHS is 3-0 followed by Bloomington 1-1, Pana 1-1, Centralia 1-2 and Vandalia 0-2.
The finals of the tournament have been moved to today. Two of the final four games will be played with Pana against Centralia at 5 p.m. and Effingham taking on Vandalia at 6:30. If the Hearts win, they will capture the tournament championship.
The other two games, Vandalia against Bloomington and Bloomington facing Pana have been rescheduled for Monday. The first game with Vandalia and Bloomington will be played at 11:30 a.m. and the Bloomington vs. Pana contest is at 1:30 p.m.

Little Illini Conference Tournament
Paris captured the championshp of the Little Illini Conference Tournament Thursday evening.
The Tigers edged Olney, 54-51 for the title.
Third place went to Marshall over Flora, 63-56.
Lawrenceville claimed the consolation championship by downing Newton, 48-31. Lawrenceville took a 26-11 halftime lead.
Akers tallied 23 for the winners while Williams added 10.
Newton was led by Eliza Bierman with 12 points and five rebounds. Bierman knocked in four three-pointers. Whitney Zumbahlen led in steals with two. Allison Harris had two assists. The Eagles drop to 7-15 on the season.

Highland Tournament
Four games were contested at the Highland Tournament Thursday evening.
Hillsboro defeated Carlyle, 56-47 while Breese Central downed Troy Triad, 50-44. Highland beat Belleville West, 56-30 and Belleville East won over Breese Mater Dei, 58-38.
The tournament continues today as Teutopolis takes on Nashville at 4 p.m., Bethalto Civic Memorial faces O'Fallon at 5:30, Highland meets Belleville East at 7 and Belleville West faces Breese Mater Dei at 8:30.
The finals are scheduled for Saturday. If the Wooden Shoes win against Nashville, they will play for fifth place at 11:30 a.m.
