Shoes Advance At Highland, Newton Falls In LIC

HIGHLAND -- Teutopolis High School opened play in the 33rd Annual Scott Credit Union Girls Basketball Tournament at Highland Monday evening.

 

The Wooden Shoes raced out to an 11-4 opening quarter lead and led 21-12 at halftime. T-town then put on its scoring shoes with a 27-2 third period to lead 48-14. Lexie Niebrugge went on a tear, knocking in four three-pointers and two regular baskets for 16 points in that quarter.

Ten players scored for T-town led by Niebrugge with 22 points. Claire Bushur led in rebounds with seven. Morgan Mette led in steals with five. Ciara Roepke had two assists. Hannah Bueker and Olivia Niemerg had a blocked shot each.

In other games Monday, Bethalto Civic Memorial defeated Salem 75-34, Nashville won over Belleville Althoff 45-39 and O'Fallon downed Taylorville 61-50.

Tonight's games feature Highland against Carlyle at 4, Hillsboro facing Belleville West at 5:30, Belleville East taking on Breese Central at 7 and Breese Mater Dei against Troy Triad at 8:30.

Teutopolis returns to action Thursday in the final game of the evening at 7 against O'Fallon.

At Newton

The Little Illini Conference Tournament had four games on tap at Newton and Robinson Monday evening.

In games at Newton, Olney downed the host Eagles 60-46 and Flora defeated Lawrenceville 47-40.

Olney took a 17-9 opening quarter lead on Newton and led 32-23 at halftime. The Tigers remained in control in the second half.

Newton was led by Brooke Jansen with 13 points and six rebounds. Claire Carr had three steals and three assists.

In games at Robinson, Paris won over host Robinson 63-19 while Marshall defeated Red HIll (Bridgeport) 69-44.

Games tonight feature Red Hill taking on Casey-Westfield at 5 in consolation bracket play, Paris facing Flora at 6:30 and Olney meeting Marshall at 8 in winner bracket action.

Newton drops into the consolation bracket and will take on the winner of the Red Hill vs. Casey-Westfield contest Wednesday at 6 p.m.
