Battle for Cumberland Co. Goes to Neoga, WSS Nabs Win

Most Friday night basketball action was canceled due to the weather, but Neoga and Cumberland went at it strong.

In the battle for Cumberland County, the Neoga Indians pulled out an overtime win over the Cumberland Pirates, 56-54.

The Pirates held a 13-12 opening quarter lead but Neoga moved ahead 26-24 at halftime and led by four going into the final quarter.

The game was tied 51-51 at the end of regulation, sending the game into overtime. In that overtime period, Neoga's Adam Fearday and Levi Peters scored a basket each and Mitchell Cornell put in a free throw to pull out the victory.

Four players hit double figures for the Indians. Trevor Roy led the way with 15 while Cornell added 12 and Peters and Reece Johnson scored 10 each.

Cumberland was led by Brennyn Cutts with 19 and Butler tallied 14.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a 56-42 non-conference victory over Ramsey Friday in overtime.

The two squads were tied at 9-9 after the opening quarter and WSS moved ahead 20-16 at halftime. Ramsey came back with an 18-11 third quarter and the game was tied at 40-40 and went into overtime. WSS then pulled out the victory with a 16-2 OT run.

Three players hit double figures for the Hatchets. Adam Burton led the way with 16 points while Jackson Miller added 15 and Beau Bennett 10.

The Hatchets are now 13-6 on the season.
