DIETERICH -- Teutopolis captured the championship of the Dieterich Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday.
T-town defeated host Dieterich, 49-37 for the title. T-town leaped out to an 18-7 first quarter lead and led 27-18 at halftime and 33-28 going into the final quarter then had a 16-9 final period.
Althoff and Niebrugge led the Shoes with 12 points each while Busher added 11.
Dieterich was led by B. Budde with 21.
In the third place contest, St. Anthony defeated Altamont 52-46 in overtime.
The Bulldogs held a 21-15 halftime lead and led 33-23 going into the final quarter. Altamont came roaring back with a 17-7 run to tie the score. In the overtime, St. Anthony had a 12-6 edge.
Craig Croy led the Bulldogs with 19 points while Kyle Stewart added 16.
Altamont was led by Noah Klimpel and T. Robbins with 12 each and W. Schultz with 11.

At Effingham
Effingham hosted Robinson in freshman/sophomore play and picked up a 53-31 victory Thursday.
The Hearts trailed Robinson 14-9 after the opening quarter but took a 27-20 halftime lead and never trailed again.
Max Woelfer led the way with 13 points while Jett Volpi added 11.

Cumberland edged Newton 17-16 in freshman/sophomore action Thursday.
Cumberland took a 10-7 opening half lead. The Pirates were led in scoring by Wiley Peters with seven.
Newton was led by Collin Dossey with six.
