Effingham St. Anthony High School trailed Flora through the first half then came back strong with a 30-14 second half to pull out a 40-29 non-conference girls basketball victory Saturday.

"We played a really good second half defensively; the morning game on a Saturday can be deadly if not ready to play and that's what happened in the first half," said Coach Bart Wiedman. "We are lucky to sneak out a win!"

Clare McHugh led the Bulldogs with 13 points and Meg Richards added 12.

Coach Wiedman said, "Meg Richards had a great second half offensively and Sydney Gibson's defense was great. Richards had seven rebounds and Kinkelaar had four assists."

The Bulldogs are now 14-8 on the season.

St. Anthony won the junior varsity game 37-24.
