Salem captured two victories over Effingham in freshman/sophomore boys basketball action Thursday.

In the freshman game, Salem took a 28-16 halftime lead and went on for a 45-28 victory.

The Hearts were led by Jett Volpi and Brayden Pals with six points each.

In the sophomore game, Salem claimed a 59-44 victory. The Wildcats held a 30-28 halftime lead and led 46-39 going into the final quarter. The Wildcats had a 13-5 final period run.

Effingham was led by Max Woelfer with 18 points.

At Newton

Lawrenceville came calling in freshman action and picked up a 51-46 victory.

Newton held a 24-17 halftime lead but Lawrenceville had a 20-7 third quarter surge.

The Eagles were led by Weston Tharp with 17 and Jamie Zumbahlen with 12.
