Dieterich Tourney Roundup, Neoga Nabs Fifth Place Finishes at Monticello

DIETERICH -- Brownstown/St. Elmo High School captured the championshp of the Dieterich Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament Friday evening.
BSE handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 52-47 loss to claim the title.
CHBC took a 25-21 halftime lead. BSE then came roaring back with a 20-12 third quarter and that was the game.
Olivia Campbell tallied 17 for the winners while Claire Wilhour finished with 16.
CHBC was led by Tabitha Endsley with 13, Jaelyn Robertson with 12 and Carsen Burks with 11.
In the third place contest, Newton edged North Clay (Louisville), 48-44. The Cardinals led 28-25 at halftime and 37-33 going into the final quarter. That's when Newton tallied with a 13-7 run to pull out the four point victory.
Brooke Jansen, a junior, led Newton with 18. North Clay was led by Madison Lovett with 14 and Cassidy Coble with 12.
Arcola was a winner in the fifth place contest over Casey-Westfield, 36-32.
Dieterich captured seventh place by downing South Central, 54-45.
South Central took a 12-10 opening quarter lead but Dieterich moved ahead 25-23 at halftime. The Movin' Maroons had a 15-11 second period and a 12-8 third quarter.
Jenny Robards led Dieterich with 12 while Meinhart chipped in with 10.
South Central was led by Laney Webster with 19 and Kayli Swift with 11.
Named to the All-Tournament Team were Claire Wilhour (Brownstown/St. Elmo) who claimed the Most Valuable Player award. Wilhour scored her 1,000th career point against CHBC.
Also on the team were Jaelyn Robertson (CHBC), Madison Lovett (North Clay), Jaelynn Riggleman (Casey-Westfield), Olivia Campbell (BSE), Tabitha Endsley (CHBC), Whitney Zumbahlen (Newton), Cassidy Coble (North Clay), Brooke Jansen (Newton) and Arianna Warren (Arcola).
In the boys tournament, first place went to Red Hill (Bridgeport) over host Dieterich, 69-56.
The Maroons took a 21-18 opening quarter lead and led 33-26 at halftime. Red Hill came back to pull ahead 45-44 going into the final period then had a 24-12 run.
Dieterich was led by Evan Bohnhoff with 15, Cole Niebrugge with 13, Derek Kuhl with 12 and Collin Hartke with 10.
In the third place contest, North Clay downed Newton, 66-47. North Clay swept out to a 34-18 halftime lead and never looked back.
Nick Miller led the Cardinals with 16 points while Aleon Rinehart added 13 and Tyson Jones 10.
Newton was led by Kyle Schafer with 10.
Arcola defeated Sullivan, 59-48 for fifth place.
Oblong downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 46-44 in overtime in the seventh place contest.
CHBC led 15-9 after the opening quarter and 21-15 at hafltime. Oblong came back with a 14-6 third quarter to lead 29-27 going into the final period. CHBC then had a 13-11 score to send the game into overtime.
CHBC was led by Keegan Martin with 13.

Monticello Boys, Girls Holiday Tournaments
Neoga claimed fifth place in both the Monticello boys and girls holiday tournaments Friday.
Neoga downed Colfax Ridgeview for fifth place in the boys meet. The Indians led 29-22 at halftime and by that same seven point margin going into the final period.
The Indians had two players finish in double figures. Reece Johnson, a 6-foot sophomore, led the way with 28 points while Trevor Roy chipped in with 10.
Neoga's Johnson was named to the All-Tournament Team along with Trevor Roy.
In the girls tourney, Neoga edged Stark County, 45-43 for fifth place.
Stark County held an 11-9 opening quarter lead and led 22-16 at halftime. Neoga came back with a 29-21 second half to pull out the victory.
Olivia Titus, a junior, led the Indians with 22 points.
