T-town Second, EHS Third at Charleston Tourney

CHARLESTON -- Teutopolis High School captured second place while Effingham was third at the Charleston Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament Saturday.

In Friday action, T-town downed Effingham, 49-38. The Hearts took a 15-13 opening quarter lead but T-town came back with a 15-8 second period to lead 28-23 at halftime.

EHS rallied with an 11-6 third quarter to tie the score at 34-34 going into the final period. The Wooden Shoes then got back on track with a 15-4 final period to pull out the victory.

T-town was led by Claire Bushur with 16 points. Effingham was led by Carsyn Fearday with 17.

T-town then defeated Tri-County 52-46 to reach the championship. The Shoes again trailed after the opening quarter 11-9 but came back with an 18-7 second period to lead 27-18 at halftime. Tri-County mounted a comeback with a 13-8 third quarter but T-town regained control in the final quarter for the win.

Morgan Mette led the way for the Shoes with 18 while Bushur added 11.

In the Saturday championship game, t-town fell to Charelston 56-42. The Trojans took a 31-23 halftime lead then had a 15-8 final period.

Sh. Littleford led Charleston with 18 points while Jackson added 15 and Collant 12.

T-town was led by Bushur with 11.

Effingham fell to Charleston 45-43 to drop into the third place game.

The Hearts were led by Fearday with 17 and Abby Weis with 14.

In the third place contest, EHS downed Tri-County 54-49.

Fearday connected on three trifectas and finished with 21 to lead the Hearts. Carie tallied 13 and Weis 11.
