Dieterich Boys Play For Own Tourney Title

DIETERICH -- Dieterich handed Newton a 59-42 loss Thursday and advances to the championship of its own boys holiday basketball tournament.

The Movin' Maroons played Dieterich in the final contest of the evening and claimed a 59-42 victory.

Dieterich moved into 16-10 opening quarter lead and led 35-18 at halftime. Collin Hartke, a 6-foot-1 junior, led the Maroons with 21 points while Cole Niebrugge tallied 15 and Derek Kuhl 14.

Newton was led by Kyle Schafer with 14.

In the opening contest, Arcola beat Oblong, 52-39.

Sullivan then downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 69-49.

The Redskins moved ahead 22-21 at halftime then had a 24-10 third period run that put the contest in the win category.

CHBC was led by Dylan Weber, a 6-foot senior, with 22.

Red Hill (Bridgeport) then defeated Arcola, 56-32.

Newton claimed a 64-33 victory over CHBC. The Eagles led 41-17 at halftime and had a 23-16 second half.

K. Schafer led the way with 15 points while Seth Weber added 14 and Zak Finn 12.

CHBC was led by Trace Smith and Nick Miller with seven points each.

Red Hill handed North Clay (Louisville) a 57-45 loss.

Red Hill held a 27-20 halftime lead then had a 14-5 third period run.

North Clay was led in scoring by Aleon Rinehart with 15 points.
