Nate Thompson had to leave the Effingham game against Oak Lawn at the Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Classic near halftime after sustaining a deep cut above his right eye.

Thompson came back for the second half with the cut bandaged shut and he celebrated by hitting the game-winning shot with under 10 seconds left to give the Hearts a 53-50 win in a game heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Landon Wolfe led Effingham in scoring with 20 points, making 5 of 9 shots and hitting 10 of 10 from the line. Nate Thompson finished with 13 points and Parker Wolfe hit a big three-point shot late to finish with 10 points. Cole Marxman scored eight points and Drew Thompson added two points.

The Hearts led the contest until well in the third quarter when Oak Lawn caught fire and eventually took a seven-point lead. Effingham came storming back, though, and Thompson's drive down the lane for the winning bucket and foul shot put the Hearts up by three. Oak Lawn tried a three-pointer at the buzzer that came up short.
