CHBC Faces BSE For Girls Dieterich Tourney Title

DIETERICH -- Arcola opened the Dieterich Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday with a 68-42 victory over host Dieterich.

The Purple Riders ran off to a 21-7 opening quarter lead  and led 38-20 at halftime. Arcola had a 30-22 second half.

Dieterich was led by Jennifer Robards with seven points.

In the next contest, Newton handed Casey-Westfield a 54-34 loss.

Newton took a 33-15 halftime lead. The Eagles had two players hit double digits. Brooke Jansen tallied 18 while Eliza Bierman scored 11. The Eagles knocked in seven three-pointers, four by Jansen and two by Bierman.

Casey-Westfield was led by Eva Richardson with 11.

North Clay (Louisville) handed Arcola a 55-31 loss. The Cardinals jumped out to a 21-10 opening quarter lead and that was the contest.

The Cardinals were led by Madison Lovett with 24 points and Lexi Bailey with nine.

The next contest went to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City over Casey-Westfield, 52-32.

The Bobcats took a 33-15 halftime lead then had a 12-4 third quarter run.

CHBC was led by Jaelyn Robertson with 23 points.

Brownstown/St. Elmo was a 64-27 winner over Dieterich. With a 37-18 halftime lead, BSE never looked back.

BSE was led by the one-two scoring punch of Claire Wilhour with 23 and Olivia Campbell with 22.

Dieterich was led by Jennifer Robards with 12.

The final game went to CHBC over South Central, 62-40. The Bobcats led by only three going into the final period then took off with a 25-6 run. Tabitha Endsley led the Bobcats with 19 points while Kylee Bertin added 10.

South Central was led by Laney Webster with 18.

The tournament comes to a close today. Dieterich faces South Central at 1 p.m. for seventh place. Casey-Westfield takes on Arcola at 2:30 for fifth place. North Clay and Newton square off for third place at 4 p.m. while CHBC and BSE meet for the championship around 5 p.m.
