Dieterich, N. Clay Claim Two Wins At Boys Tourney

DIETERICH -- Dieterich and North Clay (Louisville) both claimed victories at the Dieterich Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament Wednesday.

Dieterich claimed the opener over Sullivan, 59-33. The Movin' Maroons stepped out to a 13-6 opening quarter lead and had an 18-7 second period.

Collin Hartke led the way for the Maroons with 16 points while Derek Kuhl chipped in with 13.

In the second game, Red Hill (Bridgeport) won over Oblong, 62-28.

North Clay then downed Arcola, 66-57 in overtime. The score was tied at 29-29 at halftime. North Clay moved into a five point lead in the third quarter but Arcola came back with a 17-12 run to tie the score at 57-57. In the overtime period, the Cardinals had a 9-0 run.

Tyson Jones and Aleon Rinehart scored 17 points each for the winners while Kaden Turner added 11.

Newton then defeated Sullivan, 61-36. The Eagles held a 27-15 halftime lead then had a 28-15 third quarter run.

Kyle Schafer led the way for the Eagles with 19 points while Zak Finn added 12.

North Clay picked up its second victory with a 53-46 win over Oblong.

With a 22-15 opening quarter run, the Cardinals took a big lead then had to fight off Oblong in the second half.

The Cardinals were led by Tyson Jones with 12 and Luke Fleener with 11.

Dieterich then edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 58-51 in the final game of the day.

The Maroons led 14-8 after the opening quarter and 37-28 at halftime.

Hartke had a big scoring contest with 32 points. He connected on 12 field goals and was eight of 14 at the line. Also in double figures was Evan Bohnhoff with 15.

CHBC was led by Keegan Martin with 16 and Dylan Webster with 10.

The tournament continues today with six games on tap and finishes out Friday.
