Six Advance to East Central District Hoop Shoot

Three boys and three girls, ages 8-13 years old, won first round competition in the Elks’ “Hoop Shoot” free throw contest held at Effingham High School December 8 and have been named local Effingham Elks “Hoop Shoot” champions. There were 85 participants from the area schools.

Trophies were awarded to the first and second place winners in each age category, ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.

The six champions will now advance to the East Central District Hoop Shoot Contest  The Robinson Elks Lodge #1188 will be hosting the District "Hoop Shoot" contest at noon Saturday January 12 at Robinson High School. Registration and check-in promptly at noon. Participants will not be allowed any practice shots prior to the 12:30 p.m. beginning.

FIRST PLACE WINNERS

12-13 year olds:

Boys -- Carter Hoene, son of James and Crystal Hoene, Teutopolis Grade School, made 21 of 25, Shoot-off 4 of 5

Girls -- Grace Nelson, daughter of Jared and Bethany Nelson, Altamont Lutheran Interparish School, made 21 of 25

10-11 year olds:       

Boys -- Kade Milleville, son of Dave and Jennifer Milleville, Altamont Lutheran Interparish School, made 21 of 25, Shoot-off 5 of 5

Girls -- Makaylee Splechter, daughter of Shaun and Kim Splechter, Altamont Grade School, made 16 of 25

8-9 year olds:

Boys -- Curtis Tingley, son of Chris and Michelle Tingley, St. Anthony Grade School, made 21 of 25

Girls -- Myra Friese, daughter of Kurt and Bridgitte Friese, Stewardson Trinity Lutheran School, made 19 of 25

SECOND PLACE

12-13 year-olds:

Boys -- Landon Wallace, son of Michelle Wallace, Sacred Heart School, made 16 of 25, Shoot-off 4 of 5

Girls -- Stacie Vonderheide, daughter of Brock and Jamie Vonderheide, Stewardson-Strasburg Grade School, made 17 of 25

10-11 year-olds:

Boys -- Lane Frost, son of Curtis and Jodi  Frost, St. Anthony Grade School, made 15 of 25, Shoot-off 3 of 5

Girls -- Tingley Schwerdt, daughter of Larry and Alicia Schwerdt, Teutopolis Grade School, made 15 of 25, Shoot-off 3 of 5, Shoot-off 4 of 5

8-9 year olds:

Boys -- Andy Lustig, son of Carl and Paula Lustig, Teutopolis Grade School, made 16 of 25

Girls -- Brooklyn Will, daughter of Brian Will, Sigel St. Michael Grade School, made 11 of 25, Shoot-off 5 of 5

The 27th Annual Doris (Carrie) Zerrusen plaque was given to Grace Nelson for making the most free throws of the 41 girl participants by hitting 21 of 25 free throws.

The 13th Annual Taylor Worman plaque was given to Kade Milleville for making the most free throws of the 44 boys participating by hitting 21 out of 25 free throws plus 5 of 5 shoot off.

Doris (Carrie) Zerrusen and Taylor Worman were past National Champions of the Elks Hoop Shoot. Doris in 1982 and Taylor in 2001 and 2004.
