SEB Finishes Second at Own Tourney, Boys Saturday Roundup

ST. ELMO -- Mulberry Grove captured the championship of the 59th St. Elmo/Brownstown Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.
Mulberry Grove defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown, 50-43.
SEB held a 15-13 opening quarter lead and led 28-25 at halftime. The Eagles were still in control going into the final period with a 37-34 lead.
But the Aces came back with a 16-6 run led by W. Criner with eight points and pulled out the victory. Criner tallied 21 while C. Latham scored 16.
St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Nate Philpot with 15 and Andy Goldsborough with 11.
In the third place contest, Cumberland edged Vandalia, 62-61,.
The Vandals held a 15-13 opening quarter lead and led 33-31 at hafltime and 46-41 going into the final quarter. Cumberland then tallied a 21-15 edge for the victory.
The Pirates had three players hit double figures. Brennyn Cutts led the way with 22 points while Zach Wolke added 13 and Gabe Hatfill 10.
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg captured the fifth place contest with a 55-50 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.
WSS held a 14-6 opening quarter lead and led 30-14 at halftime. The Hatchets were in charge the rest of the way.
Three players scored in double figures for the winners. Jackson Miller tallied 18 while Wyatt Smith added 12 and Adam Burton 11.
CHBC was led by Eddie Clearwater with 17 and Nick Miller with 14.
Ramsey was a 70-54 winner over Patoka for seventh-place.
Named to the All-Tournament First Team were Courtlyn Latham (Mulberry Grove) who was named the Most Valuable Player, Andy Goldsborough (SEB), Zach Wolke (Cumberland), Wyatt Criner (Mulberry Grove) and Blake Morrison (Vandalia).
Named to the Second Team were Bryton Pruett (SEB), Brennyn Cutts (Cumberland), Jackson Miller (WSS), Tyler Alexander (Patoka) and Koester Cook (Ramsey).
The cheerleading awards went to St. Elmo/Brownstown first place and Vandalia second place.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis took the early lead and never let up in a 64-49 victory over Robinson Saturday.
The Wooden Shoes led 12-5 after the first quarter and 25-16 at halftime.
Dawson Smith, a 6-foot-6 senior, led the way for the Shoes with 24 points. Clint Weber added 16 and Evan Wernert had 13,
Smith hit 10 field goals that included one three-pointer, and was three of three at the line.
Smith led in rebounds with 12 as T-town took a 33-17 lead on the boards. Dawson Smith had five assists.

At Greenville
Altamont competed in the Greenville Quadrangular Saturday and fell in two games.
Greenville handed Altamont a 59-54 loss. The Indians held a 27-22 halftime lead and led by those five points going into the final quarter.
But Greenville came back with an 18-8 final quarter to pull out the victory.
Altamont was led by Alek Biggs with 22 and Aidan Jahraus with 21.
In the game against Hillsboro, Altamont fell in a 60-51 game.
The Hiltoppers moved ahead 19-15 after one quarter but Altamont took a 26-25 halftime lead. Hillsboro then put together a big scoring third quarter, 21-12.
Biggs scored 24 and Jahraus 10 for the Indians.
