TEUTOPOLIS -- Forty-nine was the magic number as Teutopolis handed Effingham St. Anthony two losses in boys junior high basketball action Thursday.
Te Wooden Shoes claimed the seventh-grade contest, 49-10. T-town held a 27-4 halftime lead. Tyler Pruemer and Garret Gaddis scored 10 points each for the Shoes. Bernhard led St. Anthony with six.
In eighth-grade play. The Shoes led 18-9 at halftime then had a 15-2 third quarter. James Niebrugge led the Shoes with 18 points while Caleb Siemer added 11.
Willenborg led St. Anthony with eight points.

At Olney
Effingham Junior High School split victories with Olney in boys basketball competition Thursday evening.
In seventh-grade play, Olney claimed a 32-24 victory. The Mustangs held a 16-11 halftime lead and still led 21-18 going into the final quarter. Olney came back with a 14-3 final period for the win.
Lewis led Effingham with nine points.
In the eighth-grade game, Effingham downed Olney, 43-24. The Mustangs ran off to a 17-2 opening quarter lead and then had a 24-11 second half.
Westendorf tallied 15 points for the winners and had eight rebounds and three steals. Wolfe and Estrada also had three steals.

At Cowden
Shelbyville came calling and claimed two victories over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday.
In the seventh-grade game, Shelbyville was a 31-18 winner. Shelbvyille held a 21-8 halftime lead.
CHBC was led in scoring by Zander Merrifield with six points.
In eighth-grade action, Shelbyville edged CHBC, 30-27. CHBC held a 9-3 opening quarter lead but Shelbyville came back in the second period to lead 17-11 at halftime and 25-20 going into the final quarter.
CHBC was led by Trevor Theis with 15 points.

At Oblong
Newton St. Thomas defeated Oblong in both seventh and eighth-grade action Thursday.
St. Thomas won the seventh-grade contest, 41-19. St. Thomas took a 23-10 halftime lead and had a 12-7 third quarter.
L. Weber tallied 16 for the winners who remain unbeaten at 9-0.
In eighth-grade action, St. Thomas was a 53-23 winner. St. Thomas led 34-16 at halftime and never looked back.
Bierman scored 22 and Buerster 14 for the winners who even their record at 5-5.
