STRASBURG -- Effingham St. Anthony fell to host Stewardson-Strasburg in eighth-grade boys basketball action Monday evening.
Stew-Stras took a 16-12 halftime lead then had a 22-15 second half.
Three players hit double figures for the winners. A. Witteberg tallied 13 while J. Wittenberg and Nothaus scored 10 each.
St. Anthony was led by Hoene with eight points.

At Newton
Newton St. Thomas captured two victories over visiting Effingham Sacred Heart Monday evening.
St. Thomas won the seventh-grade contest, 45-10. St. Thomas held a 27-4 halftime lead and never looked back.
L. Weber tallied nine for the winners while G. Bierman added seven. St. Thomas is unbeaten at 8-0.
Hanfland led the Shamrocks with four points.
In eighth-grade play, St. Thomas edged Sacred Heart, 23-22.
The Shamrocks jumped out to 10-2 in the opening quarter and led 16-8 at halftime. The Shamrocks were still leading 19-14 going into the final quarter. St. Thomas then had a 9-3 run to pull out the victory.
K. Bergbower tallied seven for the winners. Sacred Heart was led by Weidman with 10 and McDevitt with nine.

At Altamont
Altamont Lutheran played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and claimed two victories Monday evening.
In the seventh-grade contest, Altamont Lutheran won 45-30. Lutheran led 23-15 at halftime then had a 16-4 third quarter run.
Aden McManaway tallied 13 while Dillan Elam scored 11 for the winners.
CHBC was led by Clayton Wojcik with 11 and Layne Jones with 10.
In eighth-grade play, Altamont Lutheran was a 44-30 winner.
Lutheran took a 21-10 halftime lead and had a 15-6 third period.
Logan Cornett scored 16 while Avery Jahraus added 13 for the winners.
CHBC was led by Drake Davis with 13.

Teutopolis downed Casey-Westfield twice Monday evening.
The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade game, 54-8 with a 29-3 halftime lead. Evan Waldhoff led the way in scoring with 11 points.
In eighth-grade action, T-town downed Casey-Westfield, 57-34. T-town again took a big halftime lead, 30-12. Logan Roepke led in scoring with 17 while James Niebrugge added 10.

Jasper County split victories with Martinsville Monday evening.
Jasper County won the seventh-grade contest, 49-16. Jasper County stepped out to a 28-10 opening quarter lead.
Nichols scored 17 and Flowers 10 for the winners who improve to 7-6.
In the eighth-grade game, Martinsville was a 47-25 winner.
Jansen scored eight for St.Thomas (2-11).
