The National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament opened play during the weekend at Sigel.

In opening games Friday, South Central edged Stewardson-Strasburg, 24-21 in the first game. The second game went to Neoga over Windsor, 28-16. North Clay (Louisville) then downed Altamont, 33-14.

In Saturday action, Sigel St. Michael defeated South Central, 40-18.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City defeated Dieterich, 33-32. Dieterich held an 8-7 opening quarter lead but CHBC came back to lead 20-14 at halftime. Dieterich then had a 9-4 third quarter to pull within 24-23 going into the final period. The two squads played to a 9-9 final period.

CHBC was led by Clayton Wojcik with 15 points and Carson Evans with nine.

Dieterich was led by Jack Holste with 11.

St. Elmo/Brownstown then won over Neoga, 46-17 and North Clay (Louisville) downed Effingham Sacred Heart, 45-38.

At Olney

Olney claimed two victories over Effingham St. Anthony Saturday in junior high basketball action.

Olney won the seventh-grade game, 36-21. St. Anthony led 19-18 at halftime but had a bad second half, scoring only two points.

Beau Adams, Max Koenig and Lane Ludwig scored five points each for the Bullpups.

In eighth-grade play, Olney was a 47-31 winner. Olney held a 27-13 halftime lead and that was the game.

St. Anthony was led by Sager with nine points.
