COWDEN -- Three games were contested in the Class 8-2A Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Girls Basketball Regional Monday evening.

St. Anthony opened the evening by edging South Central, 37-35. South Central held an 8-6 opening quarter lead and led 19-17 at halftime. The Bullpups came back with an 8-4 third period and played South Central even in the final quarter for the win.

Lucy Fearday scored 23 for the Bullpups. South Central was led by Sierra Arnold and Taegan Webster with 14 each.

In the second contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo downed Neoga, 51-32.

BSE held a 28-17 halftime lead. Avery Myers scored 15 and Addie McWhorter 11 for the winners.

Neoga was led by Sydney Richards with 17.

In the final contest, Altamont downed Stewardson-Strasburg, 30-21.

Altamont led 14-8 at halftime and had a 16-13 second half.

Nelson tallied 10 while Miller added eight for the winners.  Stew-Stras was led by Kinkelaar with seven. Stew-Stras ends the season with a 6-16 record.

The regional continues tonight with Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City facing St. Anthony at 6 followed by Brownstown/St. Elmo against Altamont at 7:15. The winners advance to the championship game Friday at 6 p.m.

Class 8-2A Palestine Regional

Red Hill (Bridgeport) and Palestine picked up victories in the Palestine Regional Monday evening.

Red Hill handed Casey-Westfield a 20-10 loss.

In the second contest, Palestine won over Oblong, 25-21.

In tonight's games, Red Hill will meet North Clay (Louisville) at 6 p.m. followed by Palestine taking on Edwards County (Albion) at 7:15. The winners advance to the championship at 6 p.m. Thursday.

 

Class 8-3A Paris Mayo Regional

Three games were contested in the Paris Mayo Regional Monday.

In the opener, Marshall handed Jasper County a 33-25 loss.

The second game went to Paris Mayo who pounded Robinson Nuttall, 52-10.

Cumberland then won over Lawrenceville Parkview, 32-26.

Tonight's games feature Teutopolis against Marshall at 6 followed by Paris Mayo taking on Cumberland at 7:15.

The winners will then advance to the championship Friday at 6:30 p.m.

 

Class 8-4A Urbana Regional

One lone game took place Monday evening at the Urbana Regional.

Mattoon claimed an easy win over Danville North Ridge, 28-9.

Mattoon advances to face Effingham at 6 p.m. today followed by Charleston taking on Urbana at 7:15. The winners then meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for the championship.
