WSS, Neoga, CHBC Win at Girls Meet

COWDEN -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School opened the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament with a victory Tuesday.

WSS downed Ramsey easily, 68-21. Leading 42-14 at halftime, the game was over.

Megan Schlechte tallied 18 while Nikki Trussell added 17 and Mikala Nichols 14 for the winners.

In the second game, Sandoval was a 54-38 winner over Dieterich.

The Blackhawks led 28-21 at halftime then had a 26-17 second half. Jalynn Day led with 19 while Nevaeh Andrews added 15 for the winners.

Dieterich was led by Brooke Locey and Jenny Robards with eight each.

In the third contest, Neoga claimed a 61-40 win over Mounds Meridian.

The Indians led 39-21 at halftime. Two players hit double digits. Olivia Titus led the way with 16 while Mary Hill added 14.

In the final game of the evening, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City defeated Cumberland, 60-34.

The Bobcats led by 10 at halftime then outscored Cumberland by 16 in the second half.

Jaelyn Robertson scored 17 while Mackenzie Bunch added 10 for the winners. Cumberland was led by Liberty Dunaway with 12.

The tournament continues Friday with two gyms being utilized.

In the high school gym, Macon Meridian faces CHBC at noon followed by Neoga against Cumberland at 1:30, WSS facing Dieterich at 4 and Ramsey against Sandoval at 5:30. In the junior high gym, Sandoval takes on WSS at noon followed by Dieterich against Ramsey at 1:30, Cumberland facing Macon Meridian at 4 and CHBC against Neoga at 5:30.
